Winter Glass by Lexa Hillyer Book Review

When I read Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer I couldn’t put it down. If you are like me who love fantasy, retellings and even sleeping beauty but looking for something new this book was it. So, I can’t help but be even more thrilled when I got the opportunity to read Winter Glass which is the second book the series. The book had more magic, mystery and a splash of strong female characters that help carry the story.

In Winter Glass, we continue on where we left off. The book begins after Aurora wakes from the sleeping curse and the kingdom is on the brink of war against the evil fairy Malfleur. In the book, we focus on he bothe sister where they must find a way to defeat the fairy and to save the kingdom. Aurora must return to her world and find a way to save the people from the Borderlands. The world that she was trapped in under the sleeping spell. In order to save the people she must team up with an unlikely friend.

As for Isabel must learn to face her feelings towards Prince William whom she loves. To make matters worse she must help him save the kingdom from the evil fae. In order to do that she must unit two kingdoms if they want to defeat the fae. On top of that Isabel find a mysterious glass slipper that holds secrets that could save the kingdoms and be the answer that will stop the queen.

TI really enjoyed this book and in fact it’s my favorite out the two books. The book has mix of magic, action and shows the bond between two sisters. Each sister also shines in their own quest and must make hard choice that detect the results of the story. I also like that the book has many strong female characters from the villain to the heroes. That said I would’ve liked to see more Prince William in the story and more of the secondary characters that happen to be in the story. But overall I really enjoyed it.

Video Review

The book Spindle Fire focuses on the two sisters who are both princesses that share a bond but are different. Due to the tithes that were taken place when they were little, they were gifted and also had things taken away from them. Aurora who is the kingdom’s main daughter, and favored by all lack the sense of touch and can’t speak. Aurora’s half-sister Isabelle who is known as the bastard daughter lacks the sight. Despite their differences, they are close and willing to do anything to protect each other.

On the night that Aurora is about to be wed her sister decides to run away to escape her fate of being sent to a faraway convent. At the same time, Aurora who goes after her ends up being cursed by the evil fairy queen Malfeour. Aurora trapped in her sleep and her half-sister must find a way to save her and also the sleeping sickness that engulfs the lands as part of the curse.

In order to save Aurora, Isabelle must find her true love and find her sister. But doing so is no easy task. There danger in this world and there is a war coming. In order to find her sister, she must navigate this world without sight and along with the help of Aurora’s true love. Will Isabelle save her sister and break the curse? At the same time stuck in dreamland, Aurora must find a way to get back to the real world in order to prevent a war and a world she happened to get to know.

When I saw the premise of the book I was really fascinated. And the book actually reminds me of Sleeping Beauty and even the name of the one of the princess is Aurora. I was really excited and not too much I am a big fan of anything fae or fairies. The book itself does paint the magical world of the Kingdom that two princesses live and also the world that is created within Aurora’s dreamworld.Though do wish the book did go in further with the world building and showed more magical elements.

I also felt like the characters as well. I think the bond between the two sisters despite their differences was relatable since I also have a sister. So that made it intriguing to me. I also like the character Isabelle for the fact she willing to go to wide lengths to get to her sister despite not being able to see. But I will admit there were times where she did irritate me and at times she can be a bit naive especially when it comes to how to break the curse. As for her other sister Aurora I wasn’t really a fan and feel like she could have been developed more throughout the story and felt like she didn’t explain many things.

There was also some other flaws in the story from the fact that I felt lost at certain times. I also had more questions and book had some plot holes that made me confused on how many stories this book had. This doesn’t mean I hope in the next book more question will be answered and there would be more development.

Overall, I think the book had an interesting concept and I liked the authors take on this world. I also think the book has potential to go from an ok book to a more better story as it goes on. I do think some of the characters could be more worked on and be a little more relatable. So that is it for my review. Stay tuned for more book reviews and until next time keep on reading.
