Who is ready for a vampire story? If you are a fan of vampires this is a post for you. When I was picking up books at the library for the week I spotted a book in the graphic novel section. In my mind I thought it was super cool. This book is called Pinocchio Vampire Slayer. The idea of vampires and Pinocchio in the same story is out there and unique to me so I knew I had to read it.
The graphic novel Pinocchio Vampire Slayer is created by Van Jansen and artist Dusty Higgins. The story is tells the story of what happens after Pinocchio in a way that you haven’t read before. After Pinocchio’s father Gepetto who happens to get murdered by a vampire and then years later Pinocchio becomes a vampire slayer. Pinocchio uses his nose powers to kill them (when he lies). During the story the town hasn’t seen any of the vampires and don’t believe Pinocchio in fact despite his warnings everyone thinks he is crazy. Later Pinocchio’s investigation of the vampire killers he found out that there is a growing plot to destroy the whole town and get rid of humanity. It’s up to Pinocchio and his sidekicks to save the town.
The story was original and fresh. I read many vampire stories already and to be honest they can be a bit repetitive or just nothing different. I also got really annoyed by vampire love triangles which are totally uncharacteristic what vampire supposed to be like. Vampires aren’t supposed to fall in love or get married. They are supposed to be creatures that just suck blood. Well Pinocchio brought back the evil sinister vampires that I been wanting. Pinocchio also is also in this story a bad ass (pardon my French) vampire slayer and out to save the day.
Another aspect of this book I liked was the way the story was developed and there was some parts that made me laugh as well. I also loved the artwork in the book. The black and white imagery reminded me of manga. For anyone, looking for something different and fresh to read, check out Pinocchio Vampire Slayer by author Van Jansen and artist Dusty Higgins.
